    Housing Discrimination - Fair Housing

    The Fair Housing Act safeguards people from discrimination when they are leasing or purchasing a home, getting a mortgage, looking for housing support, or participating in other housing-related activities.

    Fair Housing Information

    The Fair Housing Act restricts discrimination in housing since of:

    - Race.
    - Color.
    - National Origin.
    - Religion.
    - Sex.
    - Familial Status.
    - Disability.
    What Is Prohibited?

    In the Sale and Rental of Housing:

    It is unlawful discrimination to take any of the following actions due to the fact that of race, color, religion, sex, impairment, familial status, or nationwide origin:

    - Refuse to lease or sell housing.
    - Refuse to work out for housing.
    - Otherwise make housing unavailable.
    - Set various terms, conditions or advantages for sale or rental of a house.
    - Provide a person different housing services or centers.
    - Falsely deny that housing is offered for examination, sale or leasing.
    - Make, print or release any notification, statement or ad with respect to the sale or leasing of a dwelling that indicates any choice, restriction or discrimination.
    - Impose various prices or rental charges for the sale or leasing of a house.
    - Use different qualification requirements or applications, or sale or rental requirements or treatments, such as earnings standards, application requirements, application costs, credit analyses, sale or rental approval procedures or other requirements.
    - Evict a renter or a tenant's visitor.
    - Harass a person.
    - Fail or hold-up efficiency of maintenance or repair work.
    - Limit privileges, services or centers of a dwelling.
    - Discourage the purchase or rental of a home.
    - Assign an individual to a particular structure or neighborhood or section of a structure or neighborhood.
    - For earnings, convince, or try to convince, property owners to sell their homes by recommending that individuals of a particular protected attribute will move into the neighborhood (blockbusting).
    - Refuse to offer or discriminate in the terms or conditions of homeowners insurance coverage since of the race, color, faith, sex, disability, familial status, or nationwide origin of the owner and/or residents of a dwelling.
    - Deny access to or membership in any several listing service or realty brokers' organization.
    In Mortgage Lending:

    It is illegal discrimination to take any of the following actions based upon race, color, religion, sex, special needs, familial status, or nationwide origin:

    - Refuse to make a mortgage loan or supply other financial help for a residence.
    - Refuse to offer info regarding loans.
    - Impose different terms or conditions on a loan, such as different interest rates, points, or costs.
    - Discriminate in evaluating a house.
    - Condition the accessibility of a loan on an individual's response to harassment.
    - Refuse to purchase a loan.
    Harassment:

    The Fair Housing Act makes it prohibited to bug persons because of race, color, religious beliefs, sex, impairment, familial status, or nationwide origin. To name a few things, this prohibits sexual harassment.

    Retaliation and Other Prohibitions:

    What is Needed for a Complaint

    To submit a housing discrimination complaint these requirements should be fulfilled:

    - The residential or commercial property must be within the state of Texas.
    - The residential or commercial property owner, in many cases, should have more than three residential or commercial properties. This does not consist of multi-family houses.
